Penguin’s Flagship Relion Server Delivers Extremely High Peak Performance in a 2U Form Factor
New Orleans, LA-SC14-Nov. 17, 2014-Penguin Computing, a provider of high performance computing, enterprise data center and cloud solutions, today announced that it will offer NVIDIA® Tesla® K80 dual-GPU accelerators across Penguin’s GPU computing platforms. This includes its highest density Relion 2908GT server with eight GPUs in a 2U system.
The Relion 2908GT delivers exceptional compute capability with a minimal footprint and maximum efficiency for the datacenter. Penguin also offers a range of GPU accelerator densities and ratios through its Relion servers, including Relion 1903GT (three GPUs/1U), Relion 2903GT (three GPUs/2U) and 2904GT (four GPUs/2U).
“Our customers require a range of compute demands in multiple industry sectors,” said Phil Pokorny, Chief Technology Officer, Penguin Computing. “The multiple Relion server options with NVIDIA Tesla K80 accelerators provide these customers with high levels of performance and efficiency.”
The Tesla K80 dual-GPU is the new flagship offering of the Tesla Accelerated Computing Platform, the leading platform for discovery and insight at scale, providing hardware, software and an extensive supported ecosystem for GPU-accelerated applications in the data center. Featuring two high-performance GPU processors in a single board, the NVIDIA Tesla K80 dual-GPU accelerator delivers nearly two times higher performance and double the memory bandwidth of its predecessor, and 10 times higher performance than today’s fastest CPU on hundreds of applications.
“With the new Tesla K80 accelerators, Penguin’s high-density servers will provide very high levels of performance to the market,” said Roy Kim, group manager of Accelerated Computing at NVIDIA. “We share a common goal of delivering the latest technological innovations to help customers address their most difficult computing challenges.”
Relion is an exceptional platform for running scientific and engineering applications that support GPUs and the platform suits compute-intensive customer segments, such as the oil and gas industry among other sectors. Penguin Computing has already shipped evaluation units with the NVIDIA Tesla K80 dual-GPU accelerators to customers.
