President and Chief Executive Officer
Tom Coull joined Penguin Computing in December 2008 with 22 years of CEO and GM experience at startup and mid-stage public and private technology companies. At Penguin, Coull has been responsible for engineering, product development, services, support and the growth of Penguin’s HPC Cloud business. A seasoned general manager with broad high-performance computing expertise and a successful background in bringing innovative products to market, Coull will guide the company’s strategy as it continues to grow revenues and capture market share.
Chief Financial Officer
Lisa joined Penguin in October 2012 as Chief Financial Officer, after serving as Adept Technology’s Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for five years. Adept Technology is a publicly traded, global leading provider of intelligent vision-guided robotics systems and services. Lisa brings over 20 years of experience in varying financial roles with a thorough knowledge of mergers & acquisitions and corporate fundraising via debt and equity.
Before joining Adept, Ms. Cummins served as Assistant Corporate Controller with Pacer International, Inc., a publicly-traded logistics and intermodal freight transportation provider. From 2001 to 2005, Ms. Cummins held several different financial positions, with APL & APL Logistics, independent units of Neptune Orient Lines Limited, a global transportation and logistics company.
Ms. Cummins started her career obtaining her CPA from Ernst & Young in San Francisco. She has an MBA from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, CA.
Chief Technology Officer
Philip Pokorny is responsible for defining the Penguin Computing product line, including all high-performance computing (HPC) and data center solutions. He also acts as the senior engineer on key customer projects, including Top 500 and Green 500 supercomputers and the world’s largest artificial intelligence (AI) system. In February 2018, he was selected as the HPC representative of the international Open Compute Project (OCP) Incubation committee, which sets standards for open computing hardware and software.
Since joining Penguin Computing in February 2001 as an engineer, Phillip has spoken at many technical conferences and industry events and served as spokesperson for the company. Prior to Penguin Computing, he spent 14 years in various engineering and system administration roles with Cummins, Inc. and Cummins Electronics where he worked on the development of internal network standards, deployed and managed a multisite network of multiprotocol routers and supported a diverse mix of office and engineering workers with a variety of server and desktop operating systems.
He has contributed code to several open source projects, including the Linux kernel, lmsensors, and LCDproc.
Philip has a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Senior Vice President of Engineering Services
Dan Dowling joined Penguin in 2013 and is our Senior Vice President of Engineering Services. At Penguin, Engineering Services includes Pre-sales Solution Architects, Professional Services and our Managed Services Engineers.
He has over 20 years of experience in HPC sales and business development at SGI, Sun, Oracle, Panasas. Dan specializes in large program bid, capture, and delivery. Recently Dan led Penguin Computing’s CTS-1 program for the US Department of Energy that resulted in 9 systems on the Top500 list in Fall of 2016.
Dan has a PhD Physics from the University of Maryland, College Park and his BS in Physics is from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Senior Vice President of Cloud Services
Victor Gregorio joined Penguin Computing in January 2005 with over 10 years of experience designing and managing custom Linux and UNIX environments, including high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, for universities, biotech firms, even the Walt Disney Company. He also served on the Linux Journal Editorial Advisory Panel.
While at Penguin Computing, he helped launch the company’s bare metal HPC Cloud offering, Penguin Computing On-Demand (POD) in 2009, which, through additional development, won the HPC Wire Best HPC in the Cloud Platform in 2017 and earned Penguin Computing Intel’s Partner of the Year award for Cloud Platform.
Victor was responsible for managing the entire Penguin Computing Scyld Software Suite. As his area of responsibility increased, he moved from being a Linux systems administrator to Director of HPC Cloud Services to Vice President/General Manager of Cloud Services to Senior Vice President of Cloud Services.
Victor attended Florida International University, Miami.
Senior Vice President of Commercial Systems
Matt is responsible for building out the global partner ecosystem for Penguin Computing, setting vertical market growth plans across commercial markets, and overseeing the commercial sales team.
He joined Penguin Computing in June 2000 and was responsible for both sales and setting and executing the company’s high performance computing (HPC) strategy. In the process, he and his team grew the Penguin Computing business exponentially.
Prior to joining Penguin, Matt served as the Western Regional Sales Manager for the Server and Storage division of American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI). There, he significantly increased AMI’s presence in the Western U.S. and was instrumental in the formation of the company’s Linux strategy.
He holds a B.A. from the University of Georgia.
Senior Vice President of Engineering and Operations
Andreas joined Penguin Computing in March of 2005 as the manager of the hardware engineering and the Scyld software development team before taking on the responsibilities of SVP Operations and hardware engineering.
In a career spanning more than 25 years, Andreas has managed a variety of software and hardware engineering groups. While working for Atlantis Technologies as Software Development Manager Andreas designed and deployed large scale call centers in a partnership with Siemens/Rolm for large healthcare organizations throughout the US, including Kaiser Permanente.
As the Director of Network Operations of Opengrid, Inc., Andreas designed and deployed highly reliable and scalable mobile messaging and transaction platforms for StarFish Software, Motorola and the Hilton Hotels mobile reservations system.
A native of Hamburg, Germany, Andreas moved to the Bay Area to be the General Manager for OpenOffice until it was sold to Sun Microsystems.
Andreas graduated from the Hamburg School of Business, specializing in computer science for business applications.
Senior Vice President of Federal Systems
Sid joined Penguin Computing in 2015 as the Federal Systems Senior Vice President.
He has over 30 years experience serving as President, CEO, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Director of Business Development, Regional/District Sales Manager, and direct selling roles is a Visionary, high performance, and transformational leader across a broad industry range. Sid has partnered and worked with the Federal Government and federally funded organizations for over 20 years. His experience includes leading across all aspects of the Federal market including Department of Defense, Homeland Security, and Civilian Agencies in both classified and unclassified areas as well the Executive and Congressional branches of Government. He is a proven innovative and motivational leader with a reputation for achieving results.
Sid has a Masters Degree in Leadership and Bachelors in Engineering Math and Computer Systems. He began his career at NASA and has lead organizations in the computing industry across a wide range of H/W and S/W technologies primarily in the High Performance Computing markets.
Sid is an active community leader serving in community organizational leadership and board roles as well as professional and personal mentoring.
Senior Vice President of Global Support, Services and IT
Garth joined Penguin Computing in October 2004 with over 10 years of IT and technical support experience. In his tenure at Penguin, Garth has managed Penguin’s IT, Technical Support and Customer Support teams. He is responsible for implementing Penguin’s Global Support and Managed Services offerings as well as designing and implementing Penguin’s internal systems.
Before his life at Penguin, Garth ran several IT teams before he helped launch a managed services company. While running managed services, he worked with an array of different companies – everything from small startups to large data centers and biotech companies. Earlier in his career he managed ERP systems and worked as a DBA.
He holds a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
