Altus AMD Servers

Our latest Altus servers come with the new AMD Opteron 6100 "Magny Cours" Series processors. As the codename implies they indeed have many cores - 8 or 12 per CPU socket to be exact. With a quad socket platform like the Altus 1804 this means a total of 48 cores in 1 rack unit - it's like a cluster in a box. More cores means more web pages served or more simulations computed.
With new processors also comes upgraded I/O capabilities. These new Altus servers Altus systems feature PCI Express generation 2.0 expansion slots which match up well with 40Gbps InfiniBand fabric.
Like all Penguin servers the new Altus servers come tested and preconfigured for Linux compatibility.
